art/wander: in which we hate gaskets

Last night, the head gasket went out on our truck.

I don't even know what a head gasket is.  I know it's bad when one goes out, but I have no idea what it looks like or what it actually does.  Apparently, it's the gasket in charge or something, though, because it's $1200 to fix one.

Ugh.

Luckily, I did end art week with a flurry of new works on paper.  That gouache set I got a few weeks ago has been one of my favorite things, and when I cleaned out the fridge yesterday, I dug out all the produce and ended up painting vegetables for most of the day.

It was a really nice end to the week, and when the call came that J was by the side of the road waiting for a AAA tow, I was glad to have some new stuff to pop up over on Etsy.

(Seriously?  $1200?  Is the gasket thingie made of friggin' platinum?)

So wander week starts today.

I'd planned on a bunch of leisurely bike rides and some delving in to both the Kamana program journals and a deep read of some Emerson and Whitman, and maybe exploring of new places.  And while I'm still planning on trying to do as much of that as I can, the car repair panic makes me think that I'll probably be splitting this wander week with a fair bit of writing and more art for the shop.  (Because one can not wander when there's no food in the house.) :D

Also, though I'm not sure I can get it done in a week, I really want to put together a first issue of WONDERzine.  It's an idea I had a while back, sprouted out of the little one-page wander zines I did for my TWS stations.  I haven't done anything printwise in a long time, and it's really fun to do.  I thought maybe putting something tangible together, something to hold in my hands at the end, about wandering and the awe of being outside and paying attention, would be fulfilling in a way that just blogging can't be.

So, if I can get everything else done, I think I'm going to do a little of that this week, too.

Shameless Promo Time.

If you've ever wanted to own a piece of my work, the self-paced classes I've got, or the Creativity Deck, now's the time.  Stupid head gasket.

If you mention you got there from the blog, tell me in the "notes to seller" section, and I'll throw in copies of the two little wanderzines I've done, too.

Buy my things!

(I won't do the shameless promo thing very often.  Pinky-promise.)
